Guangzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Rail

I just back from China. I am so impressed with China innovation and technology. Using car, the journey from Guangzhou to Shenzhen will take about 4 hours. If using the current provided train, the journey take about 2.5 hours. Using this new high speed train is only 25 minutes.

Guangzhou-Shenzhen High-speed Rail Opens Dec. 28
The Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway has five stations: Guangzhou South, Dongchong, Humen, Gongming Station and Shenzhen North Railway Station. The top speed is 380 km per hour but the actual speed has been restricted to 300 km per hour.

The Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed rail is scheduled to open Dec. 28, an official attending a closed door meeting in Guangzhou was quoted as saying yesterday (Dec 13.)

The meeting was the final procedure before the operation of the rail begins, which is expected to cut the travel time between the two cities to 25 minutes, the official said.

To ensure safety, the high-speed rail will have a trial run Friday, the meeting was told.

A 30-member inspection team organized by the Ministry of Railways (MOR) took a CRH3 bullet train from Guangzhou to Shenzhen on Monday.

The top speed is 380 km per hour but the actual speed has been restricted to 300 km per hour.

Chief engineer He Huawu of MOR said the design of the blind persons’ lane at Shenzhen North Railway Station had flaws.

The Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway has five stations: Guangzhou South, Dongchong, Humen, Gongming Station and Shenzhen North Railway Station.

The rail is expected to greatly relieve traffic during the Spring Festival, which will start Jan. 8 and will transport 9.76 million passengers in 40 days.

During the initial period of the opening, passengers taking the Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed rail to Changsha and Wuhan will have to transfer at Guangzhou South Railway Station to take trains on Guangzhou-Wuhan high-speed rail to reach destinations.

It is unknown when high-speed trains from those cities will run directly to Shenzhen through the new line.

The construction of the rail was started in December 2005. The section between Shenzhen and Hong Kong will open by the end of 2015.
